About me

Karen Egger is an independent compliance and legal professional with over 30 years’ experience in identifying and managing legal and regulatory risks associated with money-laundering, bribery, corruption and regulatory compliance. Karen conducts risk assessments involving a thorough review of audit reports, financial reports and selected interviews with staff that result in a risk assessment dashboard identifying risks and assessing them according to impact and probability. A detailed risk management action plan is then presented to management to address each risk in the context of the specific business. If so desired, Karen also provides support based on the risk management action plan, working with the relevant company staff to implement and monitor progress against the plan and reporting to management on progress, obstacles and recommended adjustments to the plan. She occasionally provides advice on specific events or issues, including but not limited to audit preparation, post-audit corrective action or documentation, review and drafting.

Karen has occupied senior roles in the international banking and finance industry at Citibank, EFG Bank, Gonet & Cie, Lenz & Staehelin in Geneva (Switzerland) and Transparency International in Berlin (Germany). In addition to risk management, she has a proven track record in:

  • Legal & regulatory compliance: developing and implementing creative and business-friendly strategies in multiple, competing regulatory and IT environments, international and cross border contexts;
  • Corporate governance and ethics: establishing and implementing good corporate governance processes and procedures, including codes of conduct, corrective action, and the use of IT to promote and sustain growth;
  • Anti-money laundering compliance: ensuring robust, effective and efficient compliance with a broad range of anti-money laundering and sanctions laws across multiple jurisdictions and multiple IT platforms;
  • Anti-Corruption and anti-fraud compliance: developing, advising and evaluating anticorruption and anti-fraud strategies and programs in multi-national businesses across a variety of industries;
